KENT Police think that a pellet might have been fired at a car being driven on the M2 motorway.
Officers are appealing for information following the incident that occurred on the London-bound carriageway near Sittingbourne.
Sally Smith, police media and communications officer for the Swale area, said: "A 45-year-old man from the Maidstone area was driving a silver Talbot along the M2 when he realised something had struck his car.
"On inspection, he discovered damage had been caused to the passenger side window. Officers are not ruling out the possibility that the damage was made by a pellet. The window will cost around £200 to replace."
PC Warren Jarvis said: ”This was an dangerous and thoughtless act of vandalism which could have resulted in someone being seriously hurt or even killed.
"We are taking this incident seriously and would urge anyone who may be able to help us with this enquiry to contact the police.”
The incident happened at around 5.45pm on Thursday, April 6.
Anyone who has any information that may help police is asked to contact Sittingbourne Police Station on 01795 419176 or Kent CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
