A campaign has been launched to get pop star Ed Sheeran to record a message for a Sittingbourne motorcyclist who is yet to wake from a medically-induced coma.
Wes Williams suffered serious injuries in a crash in St John’s Road, Whitstable, on July 3.
The 21-year-old, who plays for Sittingbourne Rugby Club, was riding towards Chestfield when he left the road and hit a parked blue Peugeot 206.
He was rushed to a London hospital where he remains in a serious, but stable condition and is yet to wake.
It happened at around 9.30pm and police are appealing for witnesses.
His friend Greg Reeves has asked his pals and family to share his Facebook post in the hope the star would see his appeal to the singer to record a short greeting for the former Sittingbourne Community College pupil.
Underneath the message is a picture of Wes’s chin complete with beard and two black dots for eyes above his mouth which the 27-year-old says bears an uncanny resemblance to the artist.
The posting said: “This photo was taken when Wes was asleep on my sofa one day, now he sleeps again, unfortunately this time in a coma.
“What’s the aim?
“I hope Ed may be able to record just a short greeting we can play to him while he sleeps.
“If not, then at least when he does wake up he will know how much this got passed around.
“Please share, it takes two seconds and could mean the difference between waking up tomorrow, next week, or next year.”
Within hours of it going live, it went viral, even spreading to Twitter with people using the hashtag #wakeupwes to raise awareness.
Mr Reeves, of Swanstree Avenue, Sittingbourne, said: “I think Wes would find it hilarious if Ed did it. He’s a bit of a joker.”
