Suspected Sittingbourne drug dealer arrested after police dog finds cocaine inside car in Avenue of Remembrance

A police dog managed to sniff out cocaine hidden behind the door panel of a suspected dealer’s car.

Officers were on patrol in Sittingbourne on Sunday (December 29), when they stopped a VW Passat along the Avenue of Remembrance.

They suspected the driver was involved in the supply of drugs and he was detained for a search.

The officers seized a mobile phone and police dog Charlie checked the vehicle.

A cigarette packet containing 25 deals of what is believed to be cocaine was discovered behind a door panel and the driver was arrested.

A search at a house near the town led to the seizure of £1,710 in cash, some cannabis and bags of white powder.

Andre Mehmetaj, of Blossom Street, Sittingbourne, was later charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine as well as the possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply.

The 26-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (December 31).

He was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, January 27.
