A man with a mental age of six was found shot after going missing.

The 29-year-old who we can't name slipped out of his home in London Road, Sittingbourne , on Saturday evening to visit McDonald's.

But before he could reach the takeaway he was shot at close range by what is believed to be a paintball gun.

His horrified sister said: "I am disgusted by the way he was treated. He may be 29 but he has a brain of six-year-old.

"He is a chronic epileptic which means his fits are unpredictable and under stress can cause him to fit uncontrollably."

She says he was walking near the Jenny Wren restaurant on his way to Bobbing when he stopped youngsters to ask directions.

She said: "He told me their father came up to him, chased him into a wooded area and started shooting at him. He has bruises all over his body on his legs, arms, back and head which look like from a paintball gun.

"He was totally confused and shocked. He had no idea why he was shot. As a mother-of-five I can understand a parents' fears when they see an adult talking to their children but the thing to do is dial 999 or 101 and not take the law into your own hands.

"My brother wouldn't hurt anyone. He's a lovely person who gets on well with all his nieces and nephews. He just relates to children easier than adults.

"All he knows is that the father wasn't wearing a T-shirt. This man was an absolute disgrace."

The attack happened between 6.30pm and 7pm. The victim was later found wandering near the Jenny Wren around 9pm by an elderly couple who stayed with him until he was picked up.

A police spokeswoman said they had a report of a missing man and launched a search. She said: "The man appeared to have sustained minor leg injuries and reported being assaulted. An investigation is underway."
