Police officer seriously injured and seven people arrested following disturbance in Church Lane Newington

A police officer was wounded and three others attacked after they were responding to reports of a disturbance in a village.

Patrols were called to Church Lane, Newington at around 6am on Sunday (October 22) chasing up concerns for the welfare of a woman.

When officers arrived, it is reported four were assaulted with one receiving serious facial injuries.

The officers were treated by paramedics and two required medical attention.

Four men and three women were arrested on suspicion of assault and public order offences.

The next day Luke Crowley, from Canning Town in London, was charged with wounding a police officer with intent to prevent the arrest of another and a public order offence.

The 32-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today (October 24).

Lauren Walsh of Winstanley Road, Sheerness and Emma Tathan, of Church Lane, Newington, were both charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a public order offence.

Kerry Crowley also of Church Lane, Newington, was charged with a public order offence.

Crowley, 52, Tatham,30 and Walsh, 20, have all been bailed to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on November 30.

Two men aged 22 and 36 were bailed to return to the police station on January 23 while another man was released without charge.
