Police track down potential witness

Police have confirmed they have spoken to a mystery man they believed had information about a hit-and-run which left a teenager dead.

Detectives appealed last week for the potential witness to come forward. It was thought he was walking a dog in the area when Kyle Coen was knocked off his bike.

A police spokesman said yesterday that the man had given a statement.

Kyle, 14, was riding his bike when he was hit by a car outside Bapchild Cricket Club on London Road on Monday, July 30.

An appeal for the potential witness to come forward was made by senior investigating officer Det Sgt Scott Lynch last week.

Meanwhile, Kyle’s funeral was held at Bobbing’s Garden of England Crematorium on Thursday.

A post-mortem revealed he had died from multiple injuries.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned and a full hearing will take place at a date which is yet to be set.

A 27-year-old woman and 23-year-old man arrested following the incident are due to report back to police on October 4.
