A pub landlady hopes to become a ‘fairy godmother’ to children living within a deprived area of town.

Trudi Eden, who runs Millers Bar in Brewery Road, Milton Regis, is holding a family fun day this weekend.

She’s hoping to raise enough money to pay for every child living in the area to see this year’s town pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The show is running at The Wyvern Hall, Swallows leisure centre, Sittingbourne, in December with former EastEnders’ actress Melissa Suffield playing the lead role.

Mrs Eden said: “We hold a charity event every year for Cancer Research but it was while I was talking to

Chris Ewell [the tin can man] that I suggested it would be nice to do something for the youngsters living around here instead.

“I want to send them all to the panto for nothing.

“It’s a deprived area and not many of them will have been to a live show before.

“We haven’t set a figure on the amount we want to raise we just want to raise as much as possible.

“We’re not setting an age range either so it also includes teenagers because at the end of the day kids are kids.

“I don’t want there to be any restrictions. I want it to be inclusive and for it to be a community thing.

“The plan is to hold a buffet for them here after the panto with Father Christmas handing out presents to the youngsters.

“We’re going to ask the parents to provide them up to the value of £5 but if there is a problem then I will sort it out.”

The fundrasier will be held at the watering hole from noon until 8pm on Sunday.

Attractions include a hog roast, face painting, a raffle, a disco, children’s races and a tug-o-war at the nearby park.

She added: “I will ask the parents who attend on the day to put their child forward and others will be able to do the same over the coming months.

“Those living in the immediate area will be first on the list. It all depends on how much we raise as to how many kids we can take.

“There’s a possibility we may hold other fundraising events in the future.

“I’m always open to suggestions and happy to hear from anyone who wants to help out too.”
