More than 100 determined children have free tickets to Kent’s annual extravaganza – the county show.
When organisers announced they planned to give away hundreds of tickets, they probably didn’t bank on the determination of Bobbing and Iwade Primary Schools.
After reading they were available by obtaining vouchers from the What’s On supplement in every KM Group newspaper, the schools, which are both part of the Timu Academy Trust, asked mums, dads and grandparents of its Year 3 charges to start collecting.
The children and their families took the challenge to heart and just three weeks later they had cut out enough coupons to save themselves well over £500.
On Friday, July 10 one class of Year 3s from Bobbing and two from Iwade will head over to the fair ground in Detling Hill, Maidstone, to enjoy everything from food stands and craft workshops to Met Police horse displays and a show from the UK pole climbing champions.
Bobbing Year 3 teacher Miss Rebecca Wharton said: “The parents have been very generous and brought a lot of coupons in.
“Some of the kids have been before, but the surprise of a bonus trip in the academic year is very exciting.”
Parents and teachers will also not have to fork out for travel to and from the fair after Folkestone-based Crosskeys Coaches agreed to take them for free.
After being contacted by this newspaper group’s head of sales and distribution, Fiona Maddison, the company decided it would be more than willing to sponsor the trip.
Crosskeys managing director Alan Johnson said: “We said we’d definitely like to offer the school a free trip.
“We do sponsor stuff and try to help out schools and the whole community as much as we can.”
