POLICE have issued a nuisance vehicle warning to a 27-year-old man after he was caught using a quad bike on a footpath.

The Sittingbourne Neighbourhood Team responded to a complaint of a nuisance bike being used in Langley Road, Milton, at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Sgt Darren Ryder said: “Using a quad bike on a public footpath not only causes annoyance to people but also dangerous.

"If someone had been using the footpath at the same time as the quad bike a serious accident may have occurred.”

The team also issued another nuisance vehicle warning to a 13-year-old boy who was caught using a motorbike anti-socially on the green in Blyth Close, Murston. He was stopped at around 3.30pm on Wedneday.

Sgt Ryder added: “We will continue to crack down on these people who insist in using their vehicles in a way that causes alarm, harassment or distress to others and we will not hesitate in seizing bikes when ever the law allows.”

The Section 59 nuisance vehicle warnings mean that is the person who has been warned is caught using the vehicle in an anti-social way again, police will have the power to seize it.

The warning also applies to the vehicle, so if police spot the bikes being driven in a nuisance manner again they can seize them, even if a different rider is using them.
