The coastbound M2 has reopened after a woman in her 90s was freed from a six-car accident.
Firefighters used hydraulic equipment and a longboard in the rescue.
The Kent Fire and Rescue Service says 16 other people involved in the accident were assessed by paramedics.
Two lanes of traffic were closed at junction 5, the Sittingbourne turn off.
Motorists experienced delays of up to an hour. At points queues were back to junction 3.
Disruption is expected to last until at least 3.30pm.
