A bake off for charity proved to be a roaring success.
Employees from all over Kent Science Park were invited to make a cake and enter it in a competition hosted by GoResponse, which is based at the site.
Visitors to the premises were then offered hot drinks, including coffee donated by Starbucks in Canterbury, in exchange for a small donation to Macmillan Cancer Research as part of its big coffee morning event.
The judging panel for the baking competition comprised of Glen Blow, marketing and technology director at GoResponse, James Speck, the park’s site director, and Emily Brooke, manager of EcoVillage, the park’s onsite café.
The grand prize for best cake went to Jan Kingsman of GoResponse, with Amy McGenn, of Concur, and Aimee-Rose Cansick from GoResponse both awarded runners-up prizes for best looking cake and best small cakes/cookies, respectively.
There was also a raffle in the morning, with three main prizes plus a selection of smaller items up for grabs.
The grand prize of a £200 photography voucher donated by jellybeanphotography.com went to Steve Brookes of GoResponse.
More than £500 was raised by the fundraiser.
Mr Blow said: “I’m delighted the morning went so well and that we managed to get so many companies to enter the baking competition.
“We like to support charities whenever possible and hosting a Macmillan coffee morning seemed like an ideal way to get all of our 100-strong employees to get involved.”
Mr Speck said: “Having personal experience of Macmillan’s extraordinary support, I thought it was wonderful that GoResponse organised such a successful morning and that they went beyond just their own employees and got other companies on Kent Science Park to take part as well.”
Donations can still be made to Macmillan by texting “Coffee 633X” to 70550 (donations are £5 each).
