Two men have been charged with raping a woman in Sittingbourne, police said today.

The pair, from the town, have been remanded in custody over an attack in Dover Street in the early hours of Sunday.

Kent Police said officers were called at just before 3.40am.

Maksim Volkon, 32, of Merleburgh Drive, and 26-year-old Vitalijs Alehovics, of Periwinkle Close, have been jointly charged with rape.

They appeared at Maidstone Magistrates' Court yesterday where they were remanded in custody.

The pair are next due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, August 2.
