Murston the moggy has died.
Vets had been trying to save the cat after he was found injured beside a road in Hugh Price Close, Murston, near Sittingbourne in a "terrible state" on November 30.
Swale Cats Protection believed he had been hit by a car.
The moggy had been making a steady recovery but today Cats Protection announced the little animal had lost his fight to stay alive.
A spokesman said: "It is with a very heavy heart and through tears that we have to tell you that Murston was put to sleep this morning.
"In the last couple of days he had gone downhill despite round-the-clock care by his fosterers. His weight loss had continued and he was having trouble with his mouth again.
"The vets confirmed there was nothing else that could be done to help him.
"We are all devastated. His fosterers are especially torn to pieces. But we will remember Murston forever and a day. In times of hardship and worry, he brought us all together and was the catalyst in raising much needed funds for the branch.
"He knew only love and kindness in his short time with us and that will provide comfort in the next few days."
She said anything donated in his name will not go to waste and added: "Our work continues. No matter what day it is or how sad we are, the cats need us."
When rescued, the cat, dubbed Murston after the area of Sittingbourne where he was found, had a large ulcer on the back of his tongue which stopped him from swallowing. Vets had to insert a tube so he could feed.
He was given steroids to reduce the swelling on his tongue and he was fed a special diet of pate. Cats Protection also arranged for the animal to be neutered.
Murston weighed just 2.7kg when rescued.
