A weak stray dog found underweight has died 19 days after being rescued.
Georgia was discovered at the end of April around Warren Lane in Hartlip.
The American Bully mix weighed just 21.5kg when she was found and was not chipped.
Swale council’s stray dog service, which took her in, described the animal as “very nervous” but said she quickly warmed up to people.
Georgia was estimated to be around 18 months to two years old, as she was puppy-like.
The service believed she had been bred from previously. She died after a short battle with an unknown illness.
The stray dog service said: “Her breathing became laboured and despite being rushed to the emergency vet, her body was too weak and she lost the battle.
“Everyone is still reeling. We can't believe she's gone when she was finally somewhere safe.
“Georgia was only with us for 19 days, but in that time, she never went hungry, was never lonely and got to experience the pure joy of being a dog.
“Kennels, especially those used by a local authority can have negative connotations but, in our case, this couldn't be further from the truth.
“Not only did they cherish Georgia, but they are the ones who rushed her to the vet in an attempt to save her life. For that, we'll forever be grateful.
“Working with stray dogs is hard and sometimes, very unfair. Signs of the horrific life Georgia had led were clear for all to see, with the neglect evident in her missing fur, overall body condition and nervous demeanour.
“Though we'll never be certain, we believe that if she hadn't been so weak, she may still be with us. Rest in peace Squish, you'll be dearly missed.”
