Brownie, Rainbow and Guide groups from across the area celebrated the star spangled banner at the weekend when they met for an American-themed session of crafts, dancing and games.
It was the first time in a few years a 'revels’ event had been held in the district and, luckily, the weather stayed dry for the occasion at Woodgrove Primary School in Homewood Avenue.
All told, 55 girls, aged between five and 15, enjoyed a series of outdoor games, including versions of hockey and rounders, before lunch.
The afternoon was spent making colourful cheerleader shakers – in stars and stripes – and then putting them to good use in a dancing session afterwards.
Guides’ district spokesman and Brown Owl of 8th Sittingbourne Brownies, Ann Ryman said: “A great time was had by all and we were lucky the weather held for us.
“We haven’t had an event like this for a few years but as this was so successful we would like to have another in the future.
“Later in the year the Guides’ movement will be celebrating its centenary so this was a good warm up for that as we have lots of celebrations planned.”
