An angry driver crashed into other cars after trying to race another motorist who cut him up during a road-rage incident on the A2.
Wayne Dale, 38, was at the wheel of a blue Peugeot 308 when he was spotted by others driving dangerously on Keycol Hill, in Sittingbourne, in March.
Other drivers had spotted him and another car overtaking vehicles on the road as if they were racing each other, and when Dale overtook a number of cars in one go, he collided with a silver Peugeot which then crashed into a black Nissan.
A person in the silver Peugeot suffered a cut to their face, and the Nissan – which had children inside – was left a write-off. The collision left one child screaming and crying hysterically, the court heard.
Dale, of Watsons Hill, Sittingbourne, was later charged with dangerous driving, driving without insurance and without an MoT when he appeared before magistrates in Medway on September 28.
James Nichols, prosecuting, said: "The Nissan was left no longer drivable and he [Dale] accepted he was the driver and should not have chased after the other vehicle and that it was road rage."
Dale claimed in court he was trying to get the other car's registration number after being cut up. Magistrates heard he had back problems, which included a trapped nerve and a disc crumbling in his spine.
Magistrates said it was a serious matter and jailed Dale for 18 weeks, but suspended the term for 18 months.
He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months and was ordered to pay £750 compensation.
Dale received no separate penalties for having no insurance and no MoT.
