Part of the A249 between Maidstone and Sittingbourne will be closed this weekend for building work on a new a flyover at Stockbury.
The Sittingbourne-bound carriageway between junction 7 of the M20 and Stockbury roundabout will be shut between 10pm on Friday to 5am Monday to move utility pipes and services.
National Highways stressed: "Please note, there will be no access to the A249 northbound from M20 junction 7."
The southbound carriageway will remain open so traffic from Sittingbourne to Maidstone will be able to travel as usual.
Traffic will still be able to access the roads off the northbound carriageway via the crossovers from the southbound carriageway but vehicles will not be able to use Oad Street to cross over the A249 to reach Stockbury roundabout.
Access will be maintained for properties directly on the northbound carriageway.
The work was initially planned to take place between January 21 and 24.
Diversions are expected to add up to 25 minutes to journeys.
Motorway traffic
Motorway traffic heading towards London should take junction 6 instead and follow diversions onto the A229 northbound towards Gillingham. At the Lord Lees roundabout take the third exit onto the A229 and then the third exit at the next roundabout onto the M2 eastbound towards Canterbury. Exit at junction 5 to join the Stockbury interchange.
Non-motorway traffic
Take the A249 into Maidstone and turn right onto the A229 northbound towards Gillingham. Follow this road until you reach the A2 roundabout and take the second exit onto the A2 eastbound and continue towards Sittingbourne. At the Key Street roundabout, take the fifth exit on the A249 southbound towards Maidstone.
Oad Street week overnight closures
There will be overnight closures at Oad Street between the A249 and Pett Lane from 8pm to 5am from Monday. February 21 to Friday, February 25.
To access Oad Street during the closure use the Stockbury roundabout to join the Maidstone Road, continue to the Key Street roundabout and take the fifth exit onto the A2 eastbound, turn right onto Wises Lane to access Oad Street. To leave Oad Street, follow the diversion in reverse.
Maidstone Road
Maidstone Road between the Stockbury roundabout and the first house in Maidstone Road, north of Stockbury roundabout, will be closed from 9pm to 5am over the weekend of Friday, February 25 to Monday, February 28 to divert utility pipes.
Drivers wanting to access Maidstone Road from the Stockbury roundabout should use take the A249 northbound towards Sittingbourne, take the Key Street roundabout exit at the Key Street roundabout, then the fifth exit onto Chestnut Street and follow the road towards Maidstone Road.
Drivers wanting to access the Stockbury roundabout from Maidstone Road should follow Maidstone Road and Chestnut Street northbound towards Sittingbourne. At the Key Street roundabout, take the first exit onto the A249 southbound towards Maidstone then exit the A249 onto the Stockbury roundabout and continue their journey.
