A major road which has been shut throughout the summer will see work completed today.

Church Road in Murston, Sittingbourne has been closed for nearly six weeks, since July 25.

Telecomms company City Fibre has been installing fibre optic broadband to homes in the area.

The changes will allow residents to use a gigabit-speed internet service – one of the quickest download speeds on offer – when using the web.

However, after more than five weeks of maintenance, CityFibre’s construction partner Lanes-i will finish the project today.

Church Road runs adjacent to the town’s Eurolink Industrial Estate and is used by many to access the Great Easthall estate and others.

Councillor James Hall (SIA, Murston) says he is pleased work is now concluding.

“I am sure everyone will be happy to hear that the roadworks will be completed along Church Road today,” he said.

“The contractors have kept their word regarding their completion date, and I would like to add I believe they have worked tirelessly since the project began.”

Traffic lights, which were installed for the duration of the works, will be removed tomorrow while tarmac dries overnight.

When hearing of the news, one person commented: “Great news – hopefully that will be the last we see of roadworks for a while.”

CityFibre is a British network provider of broadband across the UK.

To install the broadband, engineers run a fibre optic network cable from a nearby telephone pole or underground to a small junction box on each house’s wall.
