Resurfacing work will close part of the A2 overnight for almost two weeks – meaning drivers will be faced with a lengthy diversion onto the M2.
A section of London Road in Teynham, near Sittingbourne, will be inaccessible to motorists from 8pm until 5am for the next 11 nights.
In a letter sent to residents a Kent County Council spokesman said: “During these essential works it will be necessary to close the road completely so we can carry out the works safely for both the workforce and road users.”
The diversion route in place is via the A2 London Road, A2 East Street, A2 St Michaels Road, A2 Dover Street, back onto the A2 London Road, then onto the A249 Maidstone Road, the M2, the A251 Ashford Road and finally back onto the A2 London Road.

The spokesman added: “During the whole process, audible warning reversing sirens will be heard along with flashing beacons, this is a health and safety requirement and cannot be turned off but will be kept to a minimum.
“It is inevitable that residents and businesses near the works will experience some disruption and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused, but we will try to keep this to a minimum.
“We need your help to make sure the work is done as quickly as possible and to the best possible quality. If your vehicle is usually parked on the carriageway, please make sure you park it somewhere else.”
