A salon has been praised for its window display for Breast Cancer Awareness Week.
Forever Hair & Beauty in the High Street, Sittingbourne , put a mannequin wearing only a pink skirt and ribbon tassels in its window display to raise some money and awareness for the annual event which takes place next month.
It was surrounded by various hanging drawings of different types of breasts.
The display prompted a massive reaction from people on social media who praised the shop.
Owner Natalie Gorman said: “I do Breast Cancer Awareness every year and we just thought we’d do something a bit different this year.
“We weren’t expecting the kind of response we did, with nearly 900 likes on Facebook and people saying well done and how brave we were for doing it.”
Natalie explained how despite the display being a hit with most people, others weren’t so happy.
'The men seem to love it, but the older women not so much.'
“A few people have got offended by it,” she said.
“It’s not directed at anyone, it’s just to raise some awareness and hopefully some money on the way.
“The men seem to love it, but the older women not so much.”
The shop owner revealed a couple of her clients over the years have had breast cancer, with one coming in last week and saying well done for doing it.
Natalie said receptionist Nicola Reynolds and staff member Lauren Hart were two of the brains behind the display and helped get it set up.
She said: “I think it’s amazing. It’s something men and women suffer from and I wanted to get the word out before October 23.
“It was just a case of doing something nice to raise money, even if it is just £50.
“We’re going to be carrying on with the fundraising next month so are hoping if anyone wants to come and donate they can pop into the shop and do so.”
The shop window caught the attention of Sittingbourne residents after Helen MacDonald posted a picture online, adding: “Just to say good on you.
“This melted my heart when I walked past just now.”
