Fancy sending sweets to your sweet on the frontline?

The Sweet Barrow offers a range of tasty treats to fill a 3kg plastic tub which will then be sent overseas, using the shop’s own postal network.

The confectionery gift service was set up by the shop in Sittingbourne High Street after a request from a customer.

Business development manager Lee Maggs said: “A lady came in the shop whose husband is serving in Afghanistan and she wanted to send a jar of sweets.

“So we got this idea to start the service.” The scheme was launched with a Facebook post last week. The 27-year-old said: “All the comments were positive.”

Mr Maggs explained while he and the owner, Sam Wilford, do not have links to the Armed Forces, they both feel strongly that soldiers are underpaid and do not get the recognition they deserve.

Future plans include creating a website and setting up a donation for Help for Heroes with each order.

The father-of-one, of Norwood Walk, Sittingbourne, said: “Anything the customer requires we can do. It is different for every person.”
