Firefighters used cutting equipment to rescue three trapped people following a serious accident in Sittingbourne.

A woman and a man were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, following the incident near the roundabout on the Eurolink Way at 9.11am today.

The woman was travelling in a car with a male passenger, who was also trapped, and a four-year-old boy and two girls, aged six and eight.

The children were uninjured.

The driver of the other vehicle also had to be cut from the wreckage.

It is not known at this stage what exactly happened but it is thought the cars crashed head-on.

The woman and man’s conditions are described as "non life-threatening".

An air ambulance landed at the scene but was not needed to transport the injured parties to hospital.

The road was closed from the Sittingbourne Retail Park to Crown Quays Lane until 12.13pm.

Eyewitness Debbie Edwards said it was clear a major incident had happened by the number of emergency service crews on the scene.

She saw two people being treated by medical personnel.
