Serious crash on M2 between junction 6 for Faversham and 5 for Sittingbourne

A serious crash between a car and a lorry saw the M2 closed for three-and-a-half hours early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the London bound stretch between junction 6 for Faversham and 5 for Sittingbourne (Stockbury roundabout) at around 1.30am.

Aerial shots show a badly-damaged silver saloon being recovered.

National Highways announced the road was shut and described the crash as "serious".

The road was fully reopened by 5am.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "We were called at around 12.45am on Sunday to a collision involving a car and a lorry on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between junctions 6 and 5.

"Officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene where two men were treated for injuries.

"One of the casualties was taken to a London hospital for further medical attention."

The carriageway was closed to traffic while arrangements were made by Highways officers to recover the car from the central reservation.

It is not believed the injuries are life-threatening.
