Seven fire engines were called to a blaze at a recycling site last night.
Crews attended Sweeep Kuusakoski in Gas Road, Sittingbourne at around 11pm.
Wearing breathing apparatus, they had extinguished the flames by 1.30am.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known. The fire is believed to have been started in machinery.”
Sweeep Kuusakoski is a waste electrical and electronic equipment collection and recycling specialist, located just before the entrance to Sittingbourne’s tip.
Commercial manager at the company, Justin Greenaway, said: “The fire was inside one of our recycling machines and involved approximately 50 kg of waste electronics.
“We would like to thank the fire brigade for attending our site very quickly.
“Their fast response allowed us to extinguish the fire with no major damage to the building or plant.
”Sweeep is a completely sealed drainage site which means all fire water is captured and this will now go for safe disposal.”
It is not the first time a fire has broken out at the site.
In July 2013, around 300 tonnes of electrical equipment waiting to be recycled was destroyed by a massive blaze and around a third of the depot was badly damaged.
Dozens of firefighters tackled the inferno, which left two men in hospital, and a large exclusion zone was set up around the scene.
