Part of the A249 and the Sheppey Crossing was closed this afternoon due to concerns for the welfare of a person.

At around 3.15pm police closed the Sittingbourne-stretch of road which caused delays in the area.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended the A249 near Sittingbourne due to concerns for the welfare of a person.

"The road was closed and the person was later passed into the care of health professionals."

Witnesses reported that both the Sheppey Crossing and the Kings Ferry Bridge were closed.
