A police officer was all smiles on Sunday night when he won £20,000 on a television show.
As we previously reported, Ben Wyatt appeared on Sky 1’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics, but because he’d signed a contract which didn’t allow him to reveal how much he’d won until after the show aired, we couldn’t tell you.
But the show was broadcast on Sunday and Mr Wyatt was seen jumping for joy after winning the money.
The 33-year-old, of Avocet Walk, Iwade, said: “As you could see I did get quite emotional, but it was because I knew just how much that amount of money meant to me and my family.”
The show was filmed in November and his wife Sarah was heavily pregnant with their second child.
He said the money would help his mum recover after an operation and would help with the new arrival.
In the game, contestants are prompted to complete song lyrics for increasing amounts of money. After each correct answer, the contestant can continue plating, risking what has already been earned or quit the game and take home all the money he or she has already earned.
The top prize is £250,000.
The show aired over two
weeks and showed Mr Wyatt, a PC based in Medway, easily making his way up the money ladder, knowing the words to S Club 7’s Don’t Stop Moving among others.
But it was Bryan Adam’s Heaven that tripped him up.
He was on his way to win £50,000 and called on his brother to help him but neither of them were sure on the words and decided to take the £20,000 and run.
He said: “I’m so glad I didn’t risk it all, turns out we’d got the wrong words anyway so wouldn’t have won even if I’d decided to go for it.
“A total of £20,000 is a lot of money and I couldn’t afford to risk it.”
Mr Wyatt added that he was very nervous seeing himself on television but enjoyed it.
He said: “It was an amazing experience, I’d do it again tomorrow, I loved every minute of it.”
