Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott says winning the Kent Senior Cup this season will be some consolation after missing out on the Ryman League, Division 1 South play-offs for a second successive season.

It’s more than 50 years since the club won it, the last of their four victories, and they face Folkestone Invicta in the final at Cheriton Road on Tuesday.

The two sides meet for the fourth time this season – Bourne winning two of them – with the host club having the small matter of a promotion final against Godalming to come first tomorrow (Saturday).

Abbott (pictured) said: "We want to go there and win, have beaten them twice so they probably won’t want to face us.

"We know what they are like, good on set-pieces, but so are we.

"It’s saved our season, nobody expected us to beat Tonbridge or Cray, and let’s hope our name is on the cup."

Abbott has good memories of the competition, having won it twice with Welling as a player, and added: "I hope it’s a good final and we get a good crowd.

"They used to play it on neutral ground at Gillingham and it’s a shame they still don’t, because it was a good day out. Playing in the evening makes it a bit different."

Youngster Ryan Golding is available after fears he might be suspended, so Abbott has a full squad to choose from.
