Sittingbourne couple keen to reunite a ringed pigeon with its owner

By Hayley Robinson

A retired couple are trying to reunite a ringed pigeon with its rightful owner.

For the last three weeks June and Mike Dunk have been feeding the pigeon after it took refuge in the garden of their home in Stanhope Avenue, Sittingbourne.

The bird’s appearance is unusual as it has a chocolate brown chest, chocolate and cream wings, a cream back and ‘feathered feet.’

The couple have taken a shine to the bird, so much so that Mr Dunk has gone to the trouble of making it a wooden box to provide shelter. They have even named it Percy Pigeon while their grandchildren have given it the nickname of Chicken Feet due to its unusual looking feet.

But despite the Dunk families affection for the creature they are keen to reunite the pigeon with its owner.

Mrs Dunk said: "Someone somewhere must be desperately missing this pigeon.

"It’s very tame but as soon as I get within a couple of feet of it, it flys off. I think he’s lost his way but I can’t get close enough to look at the ring on his leg.

"I have no idea what we’re meant to feed him but we’ve been feeding him wild bird seed. We were putting it in a dish but now we’re putting it on the ledge of the box that my husband made for him.

"We would like to reunite the pigeon with his owner but if we can’t find the owner he will be well looked after here."
