Front gardens which face an uncertain future in the quest to provide off street parking, were still to be found in plenty during an annual competition to judge their beauty.

Sittingbourne In Bloom’s summer front gardens competition saw every town plot coming under the watchful eye of members of the In Bloom committee, Sittingbourne Society, the Gardeners' and Flower Arrangers' Society, Sittingbourne and Milton Rotary Club plus members of Sittingbourne Lions.

Final judging was carried out by Swale borough councillors Duncan Dewar-Whalley and Cindy Davis, Sittingbourne In Bloom chairman Malcolm Moore and Swale Borough Council’s landscape officer, Graeme Tuff.

Janet Grainger, of 20 Roonagh Court, Sittingbourne, scooped the top prize with her colourful and neatly tended display.
