Sittingbourne's cash wories show no sign of easing up

Sittingbourne chairman Andy Spice says it is ‘as you were’ at the club this weekend as players continue to go without pay.

Mr Spice informed manager Gary Abbott and his squad earlier this month that the club could not afford to pay the players anymore as it bids to wipe out the club’s £20,000 debt.

Spice (pictured) also revealed the club may have to fold in the summer unless someone comes in to take over from him.

Abbott revealed he has been considering his future but is expected to be in the dugout for Saturday’s trip to Walton & Hersham.

Bourne are without a win in five matches and have fallen away from the play-off places after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Dulwich Hamlet.

Mr Spice added: "As far as I’m aware, the players are all sticking together and we are pleased about that.

"There have not been many developments. Nobody has come forward to take over the club but plenty of people have forward wanting to help and with ideas for ways to generate money."

Laurence Harvey is the only player to have left the club since the financial cuts. He signed for Ryman League, Premier Division side Maidstone but was sent-off on his debut against Harrow on Saturday.

Supporters who travelled to the Dulwich game collected money around the ground and they have been putting forward suggestions to help ease Bourne’s plight.
