Sittingbourne's Shane Byrne enjoyed a consistent if unspectacular World Superbike Championship round 10 at Silverstone but confessed he was disappointed not to take more from the Northamptonshire track.

The two-time British Superbikes champion registered finishes of ninth and eighth respectively on Sunday at the revamped circuit to bolster his championship points tally to 123.

But after watching Cal Crutchlow notch his first World Superbike wins and his fellow Brits occupy the top five in race two, 33-year-old Byrne admitted it was hard not to feel a pang of envy.

"It hasn’t been a great weekend but we have at least made progress. Yes I am disappointed, but I finished as the top Ducati in race two so there are some positives," said Byrne (pictured).

"It was good to see the other British guys do well and I was especially happy for Cal. It’s almost like buses isn’t it? You wait for ages then two come along at once."

Next up for Bryne is a trip to Germany’s Nurburgring, where he will hope to make inroads into the 28 points separating him from 11th-placed man Sylvain Guintoli.

espite only managing to register a 10th-place finish there last season, Byrne is confident his knowledge of the track will stand him in good stead over the rookies in the field.

"We’ve got the Nurburgring next, which is funny because I really like it but I went terribly last time I raced there, so I’m hoping I can improve on that showing," he said.

World Superbike Championship races will be broadcast on Eurosport, with the European rounds also available in high definition. Eurosport is available on Sky 410 and Virgin Media 521. Eurosport HD is on Sky 412 and Virgin Media 522.
