Traffic has returned to normal on the M2 after an earlier crash involving four cars.

The pile-up happened on the London-bound side between junction 5 for Sittingbourne and Maidstone and 4 for Gillingham, around a mile from the Medway services, just after 8am.

The carriageway was completely shut until around 9am, leading to long queues for drivers.

Police, ambulance and highways crews were called to the scene.

A woman with a minor injury to her hand and another person suffering chest pains were treated by medics.

Delays had cleared by 10am.
