Have you ever wanted to learn to wrestle like a WWE superstar?

A man who was bullied as a boy has set up his own school to give confidence to other victims.

Stewart Martin, 32, was fostered and spent his younger life switching schools and moving between homes on Sheppey and Sittingbourne.

He said: “I was bullied for a significant amount of time and was in foster care for many years. I once counted up that I moved house 23 times.

“I was always the new kid on the block and was picked on at school.

“I was poor and the bullies would call me names because I had a different accent. I just didn’t fit in.

“I would get beaten up and the continual abuse ground me down so much I started self-harming.”

But his escape came from watching wrestling on TV and when he was 23 he joined a gym to learn the moves.

Now he has opened his own, the G-M Pro Wrestling School, which meets on Saturday afternoons at Phoenix House in Central Avenue, Sittingbourne, and covers a whole range of different styles.

He said: “Wrestling is a passion of mine. I wanted to bring something different to young people and adults to help them gain confidence and deal with stress, anxiety and depression.

“After opening the school in December I have seen my students flourish in terms of confidence and performance while interacting with like-minded individuals.

“The first time someone performs a suplex, which involves grabbing an opponent and throwing him over your head and onto the mat, is a wonderful feeling and really gets the adrenaline flowing.

“It gives people a massive boost to their confidence to know they can do that.

“I thought the community would like to know this service is available and is being run by someone who has decided to do something with their life and not let any prior setbacks hold them back.

“If this proves inspirational to even one person, I’d be happy.”

The sessions are held from 1pm to 4pm. For details call Stewart on 07704 334221 or email xanderaylwin@hotmail.com
