Several major routes across Sittingbourne are due to close for summer holiday roadworks.
The roundabouts at Grovehurst and Stockbury – as well as the A2 London Road towards Medway – are all to shut at various points over the next few weeks.
Part of the A2 at Keycol Hill, in Bobbing, will be off limits from Sunday, August 6, until Thursday, August 10, for electric works.
The A2 will be closed between Rook Lane and Ladyfield Close.
A diversion is in place via the M2.
Engineers from UK Power Networks are to install a new electricity cable across the stretch which will provide a new and improved connection to homes.
A spokesman for the company said: “Engineers are due to install a new electricity cable across the A2 at Keycol Hill, in Bobbing, to provide a new connection to the electricity network.”
During the closure, Southern Water will also be working on the site between Tuesday and Thursday, August 8 and 10.
The UK Power Network spokesman continued: “The team will dig a trench to install and connect electricity cables, then the water company will work in the same excavation.”
Just days later construction is set to begin on a second bridge over the A249 at Grovehurst Road, in Kemsley.
KCC revealed the project, given the green light by county councillors in March 2022, is set to start on Monday, August 14 and last until October 1, 2024.
Road closures will take place in two phases. Phase A will see the B2005 Grovehurst Road shut between Bramblefield Lane and Swale Way.
The alternative route for vehicles is via Grovehurst Road, Saffron Way, Mill Way, King Street, St Paul’s Street, Staplehurst Road, Bobbing Interchange, the A249 and vice versa.
Phase B will see the same road closed between Swale Way and Cormorant Road.
The alternative route for vehicles is via the A249, Kingsferry Roundabout, Sheppey Way, The Street, Ferry Road and vice versa.
During this second phase the B2005 Swale Way will also be closed between Grovehurst Road and Lloyd Drive.
The alternative route for vehicles is via the B2005 Swale Way, Castle Road, Eurolink Way, Crown Quay Lane, Eurolink Way, Mill Way, St Paul’s Street, Staplehurst Road, Bobbing Interchange, the A249, Grovehurst Road and vice versa.
The next A249 Sheppey-bound lane closures are due between Stockbury Roundabout and Wormdale Hill this weekend.
The closures, taking place between 6am and 6pm on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30 are to enable National HIghways’ contractors to work on the new Sheppey-bound carriageway.
Drivers will still be able to access the A249 Sheppey-bound from the Stockbury Roundabout and the dedicated link from the M2 coastbound exit.
