A group which supports hundreds of parents across the borough is under threat.
The Swale branch of the National Childbirth Trust could close in the next two weeks unless people step forward to become volunteers.
It has been offering a support network to expectant and new parents in Sittingbourne, Faversham and on the Isle of Sheppey for the past 16 years through “bumps and babies” groups, coffee mornings and nearly new sales.
Branch co-ordinator Tracey Stevens has been volunteering for the charity for the past five years but will stand down from her role at the end of the month as she is expecting her third child.
She said: “I have loved my time as an NCT volunteer and I have made so many friends. I can’t think of a better way to meet new people and make a difference to the lives of parents in Swale.
“You can get involved in as much or as little as you like, depending on the time you have available, and it’s a great way to meet parents near you.
“Team roles are varied, interesting and fun. There’s something for everyone, even if you can only spare an hour a week.
“Support is always given by the NCT team and you will get a sense of pride and achievement for your efforts, make new friends, and have some useful experience to add to your CV.”
If the charity folds the closest branch will be either Medway or Canterbury.
Every year the NCT supports millions of parents across the UK, offering expert information and trusted practical and emotional support through its website, helpline, its nationwide network of more than 300 branches, antenatal and postnatal classes, breastfeeding counselling and peer support schemes.
