A suspected rogue trader has been charged on suspicion of defrauding homeowners into paying for alleged shoddy and unnecessary repair jobs across north Kent.

Tony Saunders, of Spade Lane, Hartlip, Sittingbourne is due to appear at Medway Magistrate's Court today on six counts of fraud by false representation.

The 22-year-old is alleged to have defrauded homeowners into paying for unnecessary work to their properties.

Kent Police has been investigating linked reports between February and April related to cold callers attending addresses in Sittingbourne, Faversham, New Romney, Gravesend and Chatham.

It is alleged victims were told they required urgent roof and chimney repairs and that prices charged were excessive.

Where work was completed it is claimed to have been of a poor standard.

Saunders was first arrested on April 8 before being detained again yesterday and charged with six counts of fraud by false representation.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today.
