Residents are being warned about scam phone calls after a spate of people being asked for their bank details.
Swale council has issued the warning after a number of residents told them they had been phoned by someone claiming to be from the council to tell them they are due a tax refund.
The callers then ask for the customer's bank details.
Cllr Duncan Dewar-Whalley, Swale council's executive portfolio holder for finance, said the council does not phone or email people asking for their bank details.
He said if you are due a refund, you will be informed by the council in writing.
If you are contacted by someone claiming to be from the council, and you are in any doubt, you should take their name and position, and phone the council tax team on 01795 417555 to check.
