Two rival football clubs united for a fundraiser in memory of Sittingbourne Lions manager Mark Adamaszek.
His former team, in conjunction with Park Regis FC, staged a tournament at the town’s Wodstock Park on Saturday.
The 50-year-old dad-of-four, of Periwinkle Drive, died of leukaemia last November after a three-year battle against the disease.
Proceeds from the day, which included an auction of top-notch football memorabilia, will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Nurses.
After matches between teams at under-eight and nine level, parents and coaches of Park Regis and Sittingbourne Lions dusted down their boots for a contest.
Unfortunately, Lions vice-chairman Brian Sheldon was an early casualty, injuring an arm in the opening minutes which resulted in a trip to hospital.
With on-pitch business taken care of, an auction which included signed football shirts from England stars Stuart Pearce and Jamie Carragher, helped bring the day’s fundraising total to £3,360.
Lions chairman Andy Evans said: “We’re going to make this an annual event and it’s going to get bigger and better.
“The matches themselves were very competitive, really good quality and played in a really good spirit.
“We had nearly 800 people in attendance at one stage which made for a fantastic atmosphere, and our thoughts go out to Brian after his arm injury.
“This was about a community coming together for one aim - to raise money for Macmillan Nurses.
“It was a fitting tribute to Mark.”
