Sittingbourne teen 'unable to walk' following alleged hit and run in Bapchild

A 16-year-old motorcyclist must learn to walk again after he was seriously hurt in an alleged hit and run crash.

Ryan Prytherch faces months of rehabilitation after breaking his pelvis in the horror smash, which happened just after 5pm on Monday.

He was riding along the A2 London Road, near Hempstead Lane in Bapchild, when car collided with him.

The driver allegedly fled in the direction of Tonge.

His mother Linda Prytherch, who lives in Teynham with Ryan, an engineering apprentice, said: “Words cannot describe [it]. He’s lucky to be alive and not have any head injuries.

“He’s broken his pelvis in two places so it will be at least three months before he walks again. I live in house with stairs so I don’t know how we are going to manage.

“But I’ve had so many people contact me and offer support.”

Former Sittingbourne Community College pupil Ryan has now returned home from King’s College Hospital, London.

It comes two-and-a-half years after Kyle Coen, who was in the same year in SCC as Ryan, was killed in a hit and run 500 yards up the road outside Bapchild Cricket Club.

The 14-year-old died at the scene after being knocked over by a grey Fiat Bravo while out cycling with a friend.

Investigating officer PC Nigel Moffet said: “Both Ryan and his family are understandably devastated."

This morning, police revealed they had arrested a 29-year-old Gravesend man on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.

He has been bailed until Thursday, April 16, pending further enquiries.
