A thief has admitted stealing lead from the roof of a school.

Tiles and sheets of the precious metal were taken from Bobbing Village School near Sittingbourne between August 8 and 17 last year.

Jimmy Smith, 25, of Juno Road, Sittingbourne was arrested and appeared before Maidstone Crown Court last Monday, where he pleaded guilty to theft and burglary offences.

Smith denied a further charge of criminal damage at the school and also pleaded not guilty to four other unrelated offences linked to thefts.

He was bailed and a trial is scheduled to take place in April 2023.
