A Kemsley shop has been banned from selling alcohol for three days as punishment for selling to under age youths.

Lakeside News in Todd Crescent won’t be able to sell alcohol from tomorrow to Monday after Swale council’s licensing sub-committee agreed to the request by Kent Police when it met last week.

The committee was asked to review the shop’s licence after PCSO Barry Chase and Swale council street warden Jeffrey Payne stopped three 17-year-olds leaving the store with cans of alcohol on January 22.

When questioned about the sale, the owner of the store Andrew Cansdale admitted to not asking the youths for proof of age.

The committee also agreed the following conditions must be added to the licence conditions: The installation of CCTV equipment, staff to be fully trained on challenging under age customers and the display of posters on the premises highlighting the conditions of the sale of alcohol.

Store staff will also be required to keep a refusal book indicating the dates, time and details.
