The clock is ticking for a Second World War project.
Sittingbourne Homefront Living History Society needs to raise £2,000 via the website www.crowdfunder.co.uk by 5.07pm on May 15.
If they don’t meet the target by the deadline, they don’t get a penny.
The society opened a replica 1940s house at the back of Character Costumes in East Street, Sittingbourne, last year.
It includes a period-style living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom filled with original furniture and artefacts from 70 years ago.
There is also an ARP office to reflect the era in which the house is set.
Now the group wants to add a building at the back to hold workshops for schoolchildren and run a small tea room, but needs to find the funding.
Member Debbie White, who has co-owned the shop, which houses the living history museum, for 12 years, said: “We have 28 days to raise it. Some people don’t even know we’re here or what we’re about. We need to let as many people know as possible about what we are trying to achieve especially when we are coming up for the 70-years commemoration of VE Day.
"We’ve raised £150 so far. People pledge the money but, if we don’t reach the amount, no money is taken from their account.”
If the bid is successful schools that visit the house will be able to do wartime activities like rag rugging, where bits of old clothes are used to make rugs, make gas mask boxes, and puppets out of socks, and serve food in the tearoom.
