A Kent town has been chosen to receive a multi-million pound investment in full fibre broadband.

CityFibre - the UK’s largest independent carrier-neutral full fibre platform - has named Sittingbourne as the next town to join the super fast network.

The company is set to invest £9.5 million on a new network that will bring full fibre-enabled internet services within reach of almost every home and business.

Full fibre networks, unlike many of the copper-based ‘fibre broadband’ services available today, use 100% fibre optic technology to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection.

This gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download (up to 1,000 Mbps), near limitless bandwidth and connectivity users can depend on.

While work is completed, the company will designate homes ‘ready for service’ which means residents can choose to connect to the new lines when they go live.

Area manager, Anne Krausse, will be responsible for overseeing the project, while also acting as the main point of contact for all stakeholders.

She said: “We are delighted to be adding Sittingbourne to our nationwide full fibre roll out.

"In a few short months, our builders will get to work on a town-wide full fibre network, and we think people will be amazed by the difference it will make, both now and for generations to come.

"This technology will bring a whole host of opportunities for residents and businesses in the southeast and we can’t wait for them to see what is possible with strong digital connectivity.”

MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, Gordon Henderson, commented: “I am delighted to hear that CityFibre is investing up to £9m in Sittingbourne, bringing full fibre broadband to local people and business across the area.

“A genuine full fibre network is an important step in stimulating economic growth in constituencies like mine. It will tap into the potential of local businesses and lift the local economy."
