A cyclist who was airlifted to a London hospital following an accident this morning is said to be in a stable condition.
The 60-year-old suffered serious head injuries after colliding with a Ford Ranger 4x4.
The accident, at the junction of Avenue of Remembrance and Roman Square, happened shortly after 7am.
A police spokesman said officers were called at 7.15am to reports of an incident and moved to cordon the area off.
The air ambulance arrived and took the man to King's College Hospital, London, for treatment.
Avenue of Remembrance and surrounding streets were closed off until 11.30am when accident investigators finished gathering evidence.
Speaking at the scene, Sgt Steve Lucas said the cyclist was in a rather poorly condition and his injuries were being taken very seriously.
He also confirmed that no pupils from nearby Borden Grammar School were involved.
