An ambulance service spokesperson says it was called to reports of a person in need of medical attention at the railway station.

“Crews arrived and assessed and treated one person at the scene before taking them to the Medway Maritime Hospital for further care,” they said.

Trains were affected between London and coastal stations including Ramsgate, Dover Priory and Margate.

It is understood there was a large emergency service response at Sittingbourne station.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “Services have been delayed through the station in both directions.

“Trains towards Faversham and on the Sheerness line are subject to short-notice alteration or cancellation.”

An update from train operator Southeastern shortly after 5.30pm says trains are now able to run via Sittingbourne towards Faversham.

But it says they may still be altered or cancelled as the firm works to reduce a queue of trains through the area.

The Sheerness line remained closed, with replacement bus services running.

However, it has since reopened, with the first train arriving shortly before 6pm.

But this evening train operator Southeastern confirmed a person had been hit between London Victoria and Bromley South.

In a post on X, the firm said: “Emergency services are attending after a person was hit by a train.

“All services between London Victoria and Bromley South are disrupted.

“Stopping services between London Victoria and Orpington via Herne Hill will be diverted to run via Denmark Hill.”

In an update shortly after 8.30pm, Southeastern posted to say response staff remain on site working towards trains being able to resume.
