Colleagues have paid tribute to a woman who died after being hit by a train at Sheerness station.

Linda Kenward was health visitor who worked with teams throughout Swale since qualifying in 1989.

She worked with health visitor teams mainly in Sheerness, Faversham and latterly Sittingbourne and with colleagues in GP practice, midwifery and school health.

She also had links with agencies such as social services and children’s centres, promoting services for children and families.

Paying tribute, an NHS spokesman said: “Linda will be remembered for her work in supporting many families in these areas.

“Linda will be sadly missed and our thoughts and sympathy are with her family, friends and colleagues at this time.”

Linda had also worked for Home Start up until 2006.

Laura Jobson, manager of Home Start, said she was shocked and saddened to hear of her former colleague’s death.

She said: “Linda was on our management committee for several years and was a great support for the time she was with us.

“She stepped down about three years ago due to other work commitments.

“Her colleagues at Home Start are really sad to hear of her death and I’m sure she will be missed by a lot of people.”

British Transport Police, which was alerted to the incident at 8.32am on November 24, says its enquiries have revealed the 47-year-old was at the station the previous evening.

The death is being treated as non-suspicious and a post-mortem examination found Mrs Kenward, of Valenciennes Road, Sittingbourne, died from multiple injuries.

Officers are appealing for witnesses who saw anything which could assist their investigation.

The station was closed for three hours while police and paramedics were on the scene. Train services were resumed by about 11.30am.

A BTP spokesman said: “The woman appears to have suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a train.

“Officers are still working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the woman came to be by the tracks.”
