Floral tributes have been placed close to the spot where a child was killed by a falling tree.
The tragic accident happened in Bobbing, near Sittingbourne , on a footpath in a field between Stickfast Lane and Parsonage Lane on Friday.
Another child was injured when the tree was brought down in high winds .
It is understood the two children were walking with a woman when the freak accident occurred.
A note left with flowers at the scene reads: "To my beautiful niece, I love you. May you rest in peace. Love your uncle and beautiful cousins."
Police say they were called to the rural spot shortly after midday to reports the children had been injured.
A force spokesman said: "Officers attended alongside South East Coast Ambulance Service, the air ambulance and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
"One child was declared deceased at the scene and another child was airlifted to a London hospital with serious injuries."
A dog walker, who regularly passes the scene but did not want to be named, said: "It sounds like such a tragedy.
"I come here for walks a fair bit and have never heard or seen anything like it.
"It sounds like such a freak accident."
The incident occurred as a yellow weather warning was put in place by the Met Office, with winds of up to 60mph recorded.
