Tributes have been paid to popular character Chris “can man” Ewell who collapsed and died on Monday.
A well-known face and fundraiser, he was a regular sight across the area, known to thousands.
For 25-years, he cycled around collecting discarded cans which he would then sell to APM Metals, Eurolink Way.
He would give his payment to Neuroblastoma UK which supports children with cancer.
It is not known how much money in total he donated, but it would have been several thousands at least.
The Cherry Close resident, who was in his early 60s, rode around on a tricycle with a large metal basket.
Ambulance and police were called to APM at 5.30pm yesterday to reports a man had collapsed.
He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.
APM director Gareth Hyams said: “We’re all in shock.
“It’s such a loss to everyone including his family, friends, the charity and Sittingbourne" -

“He’s a close family friend and I’ve known him since I was young and he’s always been here.
“We will be keeping the charity going, he was such a lovely man and did so much.”
The cause of death is not currently known, but it is not being treated as suspicious.
His next of kin have been informed.
