Sittingbourne dad Adam Fill dies in hospital after A249 crash between BMW1 series and Land Rover Discovery

Tributes have been paid to a "one-of-a-kind" dad who died after he was involved in a serious crash.

Adam Fill from Kemsley had been left fighting for his life following a two-car collision on the A249 in the early hours of February 25.

The 34-year-old had taken the brunt of the accident and suffered several fractures and swellings from the impact.

The collision happened on the northbound carriageway, between the M20 junction near Maidstone and the M2 at Stockbury, and the road was shut for nine hours following the crash.

It involved a silver Land Rover Discovery and a black BMW 1 series, the latter of which Adam had been in the passenger seat.

He had to be cut free from the vehicle and was airlifted to King's College Hospital in London.

Last month, we reported how thousands of pounds were raised to help support his family.

But the “selfless” dad-of-two died Tuesday evening.

Speaking to KentOnline, his wife Abbie paid tribute to her partner, who she says gave her the “most amazing 18 years” and “memories to last a lifetime”.

She said: “We ticked every box most couples would and were now excited to settle down with Poppy and Arlo, be comfortable and make the most of our time together.

“Our ultimate dream was to move to the coast, somewhere a walking distance to the beach, watch the sunsets and live the slower-paced life.

“Adam was one who touched everyone he met in so many ways. I am beyond grateful for the life we built together and the memories we made.

“His career in motorsport was one of his greatest achievements alongside being a daddy to Poppy and Arlo.

“He was genuinely one of a kind – falling in love so young sounds crazy to so many but he was my soulmate and I am proud beyond words to call him mine.

“The hole he left in the world is irreplaceable and I’m glad because it highlights how unfair that he has been taken from us so soon and life will genuinely never be the same.”

Adam and Abbie had been together for nearly two decades and had been married for nine years.

They lived together in Kemsley, Sittingbourne, with their daughter Poppy, six, and son Arlo, three.

Abbie had called her partner a “family-oriented, selfless and fun” dad who often overcompensated at home for when he would be away working.

She said: “His priority was always his family – he never bought himself anything.

“He'd wear the same pair of trainers until they had holes in. He'd wear the same pair of jeans until the button fell off.

“Every spare bit of money we used to have, he’d use to take us away.”

Before the accident, Adam, who was a motorsports lover, had been working as a mechanic for a British touring car team.

He had been all over the world racing for various teams.

Un-Limited Motorsport, based in Swanley, posted a tribute on Facebook yesterday afternoon.

It said: “We’re heartbroken to share that our teammate and friend, Adam Fill, has passed away.

“Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

“Adam was truly one of a kind – irreplaceable in every way.

“He’ll be hugely missed around the team, not just for his talent but for the person he was.

“As a tribute to Adam, we’ll be carrying a special logo on our cars in his memory. Rest in peace, Adam – you’ll always be with us.”

Police investigating the crash are appealing for those who witnessed it to come forward.
