One of the victims of rapist mental health nurse Vijay Bundhun has criticised how long an external investigation is taking.
The 23-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sexually assaulted in her home by Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital worker Bundhun when he was assigned to be her case worker.
The 42-year-old was jailed for life in August after being found guilty of 13 offences of rape and sexual assault against six vulnerable women.
After his sentencing, the Kent and Medway Primary Care Trust (KMPT) launched an external investigation to examine how Bundhun was able to abuse so many women and whether it could have done more to prevent his actions.
At the time, it aimed to have the review completed by the middle of November and it to be made public immediately.
However, more than four months on, the trust is no clearer on when the investigation will be completed, with a spokesman saying its “magnitude and complexity” makes it difficult to put an exact time-frame on it.
One of Bundhun’s victims, who was sexually assaulted while her child sat on her lap, has called the length of time “frustrating”.
She said: “The report would help me get closure by giving me answers.
“I still get days where I beat myself up and blame myself.
“It has been two years next month since it happened and it’s frustrating I can’t yet close this horrid chapter in my life.”
A trust spokesman defended the length of time it is taking, saying the number of people needing to be interviewed was greater than expected.
She added: “The investigation has needed to extend its timescale to ensure its findings are robust and it delivers comprehensive learning for the trust.
“We do not want to add to the distress of any of the people affected by the actions of Vijay Bundhun but it is important that the investigation is comprehensive.
“We would like to reassure all those involved that the independent report outlining the findings of the investigation will be released as soon as it is completed.”
